Chapter 1

Trail Control

"Things you need to know before riding on the trail"

1. How To Prevent Your Horse From Moving While Mounting

Duration 2:27

Mounting on your horse safely is the first thing you need to learn before setting off on the trail. This video will show you how to teach your horse to stand still still while you are mounting and only start walking when you ask him to.

2. Big And Small Circle In Walk

Duration 3:35

Being able to turn is essential while riding on the trail. Practicing circles in an enclosed area is the best way to start and make sure you will be able to stay in control when you go on the trail for the first time.

3. Stopping And Backing Up

Duration 4:16

Slowing down and stopping is one of the most important things that you are going to need while riding on the trail. Being able to stop will allow you to enjoy your ride without worrying about your horse running away and it will keep you safe.

4. How To React When Your Horse Tightens The Circle

Duration 3:05

This video will show you how to react when your horse tries to make the circle smaller. Being able to correct your horse on the circle will allow you to guide your horse precisely while riding on the trail and avoid getting your knees hit on the obstacles you are going around.

5. Speed Control In Trot

Duration 3:39

It is really annoying when you have to keep slowing your horse down or constantly keep urging him to go faster while riding on the trail. This video will show you how to teach your horse to maintain a nice steady pace by himself.

6. Canter On a Big Circle

Duration 3:45

I always start practicing canter on a circle first. I prefer to ride on a circle with around 20 meters in diameter. Riding on a circle is going to make it easier to maintain a steady pace and most of the horses are not going to be too fast while cantering on the circle when compared to riding on straight lines. Circle also teaches you more control over your horse in canter.

7. Riding Outside Of The Ring For The First Time

Duration 7:09

When you start riding outside of the ring, in an unfamiliar environment, your horse is likely going to be distracted. This video will show you exercises that will help you to get and maintain your horses attention while riding outside of the ring.
